The reacast of the EU Directive on energy performance of buildings (EPBD) was finally approved on May 19 and finally published on June 18, 2010 in the official Journal of the European Union. The 1000m2 threshold for major renovation has been deleted and this will take effect when the national regulations have been implemented and applied, probably at the beginning of 2014. Serious new obligations are placed upon the shoulders of property and building owners while no concrete measures of assistance are taken. Read more...

On Tuesday, May 4, the European Parliament Petitions Committee presented the studies that has been conducted on the situation of the Property Restitution process in the various Balkan countries. UIPI president Stratos Paradias asked and the the Committee accepted to keep the case open, for further discussions. The UIPI and the Lisbon Association of Property Owners (ALP - www.alp.pt ) organized on June 18, in the Lisbon ALP building, an international event dedicated to the completion of 100 years of rent control in Portugal and its disastrous results. The main speakers were UIPI president Stratos Paradias, ALP President Prof. Luis Menezes Leitao, ret. The EU's housing ministers agreed in Toledo on Monday to promote housing renovation and refurbishment policies in order to achieve greater economic recovery, generate jobs and improve energy efficiency and social integration. These aims were included in a final communique, which proposes to the European Commission (EC) that housing should make a contribution to energy efficiency, as well as to the renovation and rehabilitation of the building stock, Spain's minister Beatriz Corredor said during a press conference following the informal meeting of EU housing ministers.

UIPI has declared the 10th of December as "World Property Day", to stress the importance of property rights as true and important Human Rights. For 2009 the celebration took place in Paris, on Friday, 11 Dec. in a big reunion of UIPI members from 20 countries and the presidents of the UNPI regional property owners chambers all over France. 2010 UIPI "Property Day" celebration will take place in Dublin, Ireland, organized by the IPOA (www.ipoa.ie), as a Belgian Presidency european event, through the efforts of Haus & Grund, Germany. The UNPI 100th national congress will take place in Paris on October 21, 2010, in the Plais des Congres of Paris, at the presence of the French President Nikola Sarkozy and members of the government, and 2.000 members from all over France. The Congress will be directed by UNPI president Jean Perrin and attended by representatives from almost all UIPI members, since the day after UIPI will convene in the UNPI office for its October official meeting.

The Regional Administrative Tribunal of the Region of Lazio (Roma) following an appeal of Confedilizia, annuled the Ministerial Decree which was forcing building owners to renovate all lifts installed before 1999, declaring it as "illegitimate from all its aspects", ! This was a very important victory of Confedilizia and its president Avv. Corrado Sforza Fogliani who had always fought against the legitimacy of this decree, saving thus, for the building owners of Italy, 6 bil. euros of unnecessary expenses... Read more
